Ashen Winter by Mike Mullin
I really like Mike Mullin written books. I think he really has a great start to a post apocalypse series. When I read the first book I really started caring for the characters especially the way Darla and Alex had to rely on one another to get through everything. Really the one reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 was because the author took Darla out of the story from page 180 something all the way till the last few moments of the book which ends around page 567. See I understand that the author wanted to create tension for the reader but I don't think takeing a main character out of the majority of the book is good for the outcome of the book. By the time that Darla came into the story I felt starved for more interaction between her and Alex, and because she didn't get back in until late in the book, when it ended I was left wanting more between Alex and Darla.
