The Awakening

The Awakening - Stuart Meczes

This was a fun read, and it was a lot longer then I originally thought, but I'm not complaining. It was almost like 3 books in one. The story follows a boy who is a social outcast, until one day a beautiful transfer student takes an interest in him. Then he starts developing new abilities such as super speed and enhanced reflexes. He finds out that his crush knows more the she's letting on, and that there are actually things to be afraid of in the dark.

This book had very well developed characters, that I instantly found myself caring about what happen to them. The book was broken down into three parts. Part one showed us Alexander Eden, a boy who's life was miserable because he didn't fit in anywhere, find his place in the world.

Part two shows Alex grow as he comes into his new abilities, and takes on new responsibilities. He also finds that he has people who he cares about and they care for him in return.

Part three is Alex realizing what he was destined for, and instead of running away from it, he meets it head on, determined to defeat it. We also learn more about a past that Alex was unaware he had.
